My personal message:

Hi and welcome to my fundraising page.

A year ago I decided to run the London marathon and started training. Now that the event is nearly there - on April 26th - I feel the need to do something back.

Cancer research is very important and close to my heart, my father recovered from prostate cancer 20 years ago and one of my sisters survived breast cancer recently. But on top of my mind is a friend that is struggling with the disease now at a young age. Seeing how brave and optimistic she is makes me want to contribute to research on how to stop this illness. And please don't think that this is UK only, I am in Belgium myself and as you might know research is very international, so wherever you are, please contribute and I am sure we will all benefit.

Een jaar geleden besloot ik de London marathon te lopen en begon te trainen. Nu dat de grote dag bijna daar is - op 26 april - voel ik de behoefte om iets 'meer' te doen.

Kankeronderzoek is heel belangrijk en ligt me nauw aan het hart; mijn vader herstelde immers 20 jaar geleden van prostaatkanker en één van mijn zussen heeft een aantal jaar geleden borstkanker gehad. Maar vooral is er een vriendin die nu op jonge leeftijd al strijd levert met de ziekte. Zien hoe optimistisch en moedig zij met haar situatie omgaat doet me hopen dat onze bijdrage helpt om een oplossing te vinden voor deze vreselijke ziekte. En denk alsjeblieft niet dat dit een pure Britse aangelegenheid is; kankeronderzoek is internationaal en ik ben zeker dat elke euro - of pond - ons uiteindelijk allemaal ten goede komt.

Met het "Justgiving" systeem is het makkelijk, snel en veilig om een bijdrage te schenken, en het is de meest efficiente manier om me te sponsoren. Elke steun is welkom !

In London to run the marathon. Just learned the terrible news that my friend Els - the person I am fundraising for - died yesterday. What sad news. I hope she can still follow the marathon from where she is.
