About our charity : Cancer Research UK Cancer Research UK
Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. Our groundbreaking work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has saved millions of lives. Survival rates have doubled in the last thirty years and we have been at the heart of that progress. But one in three of us will still get cancer at some point and our vital work, funded entirely by the public, will help ensure that millions more people will survive.

Our personal message:

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Cancer Research UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

As you will see, we are running, all 26 miles 385 yards (!) of the London Marathon in order to raise money for Cancer Research. Unfortunately, given the prevalence of cancer, we do not need to write a long entry about how important this charity is, as we are sure that there is not a person reading this who hasn't experienced this villainous disease, either themselves, or through a close family member or friend.

Both of us have recently experienced this disease within our families, and as such have decided to take on this challenge to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research.

Carly:  My mother was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer four years ago, and underwent surgery to remove one of her kidneys; the cancer has not shown any signs of returning, and she remains well today. Unfortunately, 3 months ago, my father was diagnosed with cancer and is currently battling a cancer that has been found on his prostate. He is presently undergoing chemotherapy, and by the time of the Marathon will hopefully have moved on to Radiotherapy.

Giles: Last year my wife found a lump in her neck and was suspected of having cancer of the thyroid. After various tests she had surgery to remove the tumour. Although she is now well, she faces a long term future on drugs. We have two young girls and the thought of them losing their Mummy was horrific. In my view, cancer is a disease which must be eradicated at all costs and if I can help in a small way by putting my 38yr old body through some minor pain, I am more than happy to do so.

All we ask is that you give as much as you can afford to this wonderful charity. We aim to break 4 hours but please forgive us if we fall short of that target.

Many thanks,

Carly and Giles
