Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
On 14th August 2010 I shall be undertaking the South Coast Triathlon on behalf of my Godmother and Aunt, Wendy, who passed away due to brain cancer in April 2010, for Cancer Research UK. My triathlon will comprise a 750m swim in the sea off the south coast, followed by a 20km cycle and 5km run - a hella challenge! I am extremely grateful for your support and sponsorship in this, and you are extremely welcome to come take photographs of my frightening shorts on the day! 27/06/10: Training underway, and have been making the most of the weather with... dual discipline training! Today was cycling-swimming, previous episodes include swimming-running. Feeling reasonably confident about getting round the course, now I can focus on not coming last. Oh yea. Many thanks to Ali-Cat, Kayleigh (K-Batch?!), Rob, Di and Amy, and of course Mum and Dad, and offline, Nigel Carey and Richard Davies, for all your support. You guys are really fantastic, and I'm now looking to exceed my target sponsorship before Race Day on 14th August. Lovelove, Joanna http://www.runningsponsorme.org/joanna_tri 04/06/10: Back in the UK on Monday, so training is about to gain a little more momentum, which I'm looking forward to! Since the breakage of some of the gym kit, the rower is getting a little... same-y. So, the new bike is going down to Chippenham (where I'm based when in the office), and will be taking on the Wiltshire tractors on my to-work route. I am contemplating exactly how to merge swimming and cycling kit into one super kit (complete with yes, scary shorts, scary bra, general unsightliness etc), but it's all going to work in the end :).
I've been thinking about Wendy lots on this job. I realised the other day that half the sports kit I'm wearing today was actually an Xmas present from her.
71 days to go to the event and I'm nearly 70% of the way to my target sponsorship, so getting there, but every sponsor, however small, is very very much appreciated! Many MANY thanks to Kim, Mat, Bex, Heath, Hannah, John, Jan, Mel, Nona and Gran for your sponsors. You guys are really great, and I really appreciate your support.
21/05/10: Wendy's kitchen said "Life is short - have dessert first!". True and great advice! I take it metaphorically, and quite, quite literally. I've just come off night shift, and my eyes are dropping as far as my chin, but I'm heading down to the hot boat-basement for a session on the rower before I'm allowed to sleep! Penny and Rosanne, I'm really touched by your donations. Thank you so much. 20/05/10: A small memory... Many who know me are aware of my excessive affection for theatre and musicals, and it was Wendy who took me to my first one, Grease, when I was about 10. Maybe my music collection is down to her after all! 19/05/10: ‘k, so, time is ticking, and the battle between mind and body commences. Unfortunately, at this time, I am also on a boat (the Kommandor Jack, for your curiosity), putting in 12 hour shifts in the blistering heat of Nigeria. Mmmm. And you will be glad to hear that there is a small, working gym onboard, cleverly located in the smallest, hottest room on the boat, so my lovely fluffy tracky-b’s are getting a bit of a steaming. I forsee many queues for the washing machine ahead! But I am two boat-workouts in, and my tolerance of heat, sweat and effort can only increase. Home-comms say that my race t-shirts (saying JOANNA. Just like that.) have arrived, so the excitement starts here. Thanks LOTS to Rich, Adam, Kabir, Joe and Tim who’ve sponsored me so far! Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cancer Research UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
