WEVE DONE IT!!!!!! With my supporters on the day .....My sons Joshua, James, Oliver, sister Louise, hubby Gary, Maggie from Rejuvalase Medspa, Dad and Rachel at home, many tracking my progress during the race and all my sponsors, with gift aid, we have made it through the £4K Target. I am very Proud. All your support was like a hand on the back pushing me round to a new p.b 3hrs 29min and 7secs. More importantly a massive boost, in the memory of Joanne Shakespear and my Mum Delia Stapleton. Cheers!!!!!!!!! Cant wait for the next one. My Race no. was 17816 follow my progress, on the day, by tracker ,@ www.ingnycmarathon.org. using the runner tracking link As you are probably aware the marathon is 26.2 miles. After The London marathon, April 2010, it had to be something extraordinary to tempt me to endure the pain of 26.2 miles again. I have pledged to raise £4000 for my nominated, and much deserving, charity. To raise this amount is no mean feat, let alone run the miles. I would like your help to enable me to succeed. I have been running, albeit not competitively, since a young age. However, at 47 yrs old, now a veteran to running, this will only be my fourth attempt at the marathon distance. The “Chesterfield Marathon” was the first when I was 17. I remember the time being about 3hours 38mins. My second was 3 years ago (2008) at the Nottingham Feast of Running , when I finished in a time of 4hrs 15mins. In the “Virgin 2010 London marathon” I managed to set my p.b. with a finish time of 3hrs 33mins and 23seconds. That was just over 8 minutes per mile. In fact, I managed 8 minute miles to mile 24 when I hit the dreaded wall, then 9mins for mile 25 and about 11mins for the last. This time my target is sub 3hrs 30mins although I dream about 3Hr 15mins! Seemingly, New York is more undulating than London - so maybe I will only dream! My nominated charity for the New York Marathon is “Cancer Research”. During the last 12 months a good friend, Mick Shakespeare, lost his wife, Joanne, to cancer and more recently my Mum, Delia Stapleton , lost her battle to cancer. I will run the New York marathon in their memory. So please dig deep and sponsor me now.
