THE NEW YORK MARATHON Sunday 2nd November 2008

This is only the second marathon I have ever entered, the first was London in 2005!. I hope to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK. Over many years I have heard of family and friends who have endured some form of Cancer, and Cancer Research will help develop new treatments and improve the quality of life of those affected. The target I hope to raise is £20,000!. I have a number of events in the planning during this year leading up to November. I want to make it fun to raise money and to include as many in the community where I live in Long Itchington to do so, along with family and friends, and so far they have been incredibly supportive. I also want to include contacts in my business in order to raise funds. 

Having now completed the The New York Marathon, I can only say what a great experience it was and in particular thanks to all 22 people who made the effort to be in New York to cheer me on!. I posted a time of 4hrs 39 mins 40secs, some 33 minutes quicker than The London Marathon 3 years ago, but regardless of the time the main thing is raising money for 'Cancer Research UK'. In addition to whatever amont of money is on this web site we have already raised around £17,000 through events that have taken place with the effort of the Long Itchington Community, both in organising and taking part. The last evenit is a walk in and around Long Itchington on New years Day, 1st January 2009, where 30 to 40 people are expected to join this walk and finish with some traditional food at a local farmhouse. Some of the people on this walk saw me in New York. Thanks to each and every one of you for such fantastic support. I thank you all very much, I am sure we have had good fun, your support is a great inspiration for me. Together I am sure we will make a difference,..... a better quality of life, for people with Cancer, either today or tomorrow.

Thank you to everyone so far, and also to Cancer Research UK who have been very supportive to date, and I am sure they will continue to be so. Thanks also to my PT Darren Checkley for preparing me for The New York Marathon, he is GREAT!.

 Lastly, thanks to my wife Erica for her support once again. Erica has joined me at the gym twice a week at 7am for months on end working out together. I am sure she has also missed me with all the long runs I have been on!

So what next, perhaps another Marathon in 2010?!

So please sponsor me now! I will make contact with Cancer Research UK in January 2009 to hand over the money, which at this point in time I hope will be in excess of £18,000.00!!! Again THANK YOU TO ALL WHO JOINED IN THE FUND RAISING EFFORTS!
