On May 17th 2009 I’m taking apart in BUPA’s Great Manchester 10k run and will be raising money for Cancer Research UK.
Most people will know someone whose has suffered from cancer, whether it’s a friend, a relative or even a stranger every life is precious. Cancer Research UK is a fantastic charity that is entirely funded by the public. The money raised is used to carry out world-class research to improve the understanding of cancer and find out how to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. They support research into all aspect of cancer through the work of more than 4,500 dedicated doctors, scientists and nurses throughout the UK. The findings are used to improve the lives of all cancer patients.
My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer twice and on both occasions the doctors and nurses provided her with great care and phenomenal support through the traumatic period of her life. She recently finished 18 months of chemotherapy along with a new breast cancer drug called Herceptin and is recovering well. For the patients and their families battling cancer can be a very daunting experience, without help from these amazing professionals it would be even harder.
Having experience this terrible disease within my family, I decided I want to give something back so I am running to raise funds for Cancer Research. Cancer must be eradicated so other families don’t experience what I and my family had to go through.
Please donate as much as you can to this wonderful charity, no amount is too small and every penny will help. All donations go straight to Cancer Research UK not through me. Thank you Roger Sung
UPDATE: I would like to thank everyone who donated and let everyone know that I managed to do the 10k in 48minutes and 49 seconds. I am done this to raise awareness of cancer and the impact it has on the victim and their families. Also this is my way to say thank you to the doctors and nurses for the amazing care and phenomenal support they gave to my mum and my family. More than 1 in 3 of us will develop some form of cancer during our life time and every year around 289, 000 people are diagnosed with it in the UK alone. The money raised will help to reduce the statistics by enabling scientists and doctors develop new treatments and drugs to save precious lives. Cancer doesn't have to be a death sentence anymore. I do understand that we are going through a recession so any amount is greatly appreciated by me and the Cancer Research UK. All donations go straight to the charity not through me.
