I have not had cancer but cancer research saved my life… Due to a genetic mutuation my mum, grandmother and great-grandmother all died (very young) of ovarian cancer. After my mum died I discovered that I too had inherited the genetic mutation which meant I had up to an 85% increased risk of developing breast cancer and up to a 60% increased risk of developing ovarian cancer. Upon making this discovery and feeling that knowledge was power, I chose to have my ovaries, womb and breasts removed as a preventative measure – no way was I going down the same path as my family and especially as I have a son I have everything to live for and I didn’t want him to go through what I went through when I lost my mum and nana. I am doing the London Marathon on 13 April 2008 which will be my first Marathon, having done 6 half marathons which has included twice doing the Great North Run! Inspired by the phenomenon that was Jane Tomlinson (whom I knew personally) I decided that the London Marathon was a natural progression. So please please sponsor me and help me to reach my target of £1,000! Thank you it is very much appreciated and it never ceases to amaze me how generous people are! Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure.
